醜い vs. 見にくい

Both of these are read the same way - みにくい (minikui). The first one means ugly (or as some of us say - fugly), though the dictionary gives 'unattractive'. 見にくい on the other hand means 'difficult to see'. Which, could be the same thing really!

I have known the word 醜い for a long time, but thought that it was written 見にくい (and have probably written in that way in emails or whatnot a few times), so I was quite surprised to find this kanji. I always thought it was kind of funny to say that someone who is unattractive is hard to see, but it turns out I just didn't realize that they are different words altogether. Homonyms sure make Japanese difficult!
